The external port is formed by an "L"- shaped protective sea wall 2,950 meters in length. The depth of the access canal reaches 16.5 meters and the evolution basin is 580 meters in diameter and 15.5 meters in depth. There are three docking installations with a total of 6 berths, and nearly 1.6 km of docking piers with the following characteristics:

• Liquid Granary Pier (LGP 1): 14m in depth and 250m long, has two berths for docking ships of up to 45 thousand tpb

• Multiple Use Wharf (MUW): 15.5m in depth on the east-side berth, 10m in depth on the west-side berth and 343m long, has two berths for methane transportation ships of up to 135,000 m3.

• Liquid Granary Pier (LGP 2): 14.5m in depth and 386m long, has two docking berths for ships of up to 90 thousand tpb.

• LGP floating tanker: carried out by refrigerated gas ships of 45 thousand tpb and 75,000m3 of capacity, serving ships of equal size.

Equipment available from private port operators:

• LGP 1: ten cargo cranes each with a nominal capacity of 1.000m3/h;
• LGP 2: in installation phase, expected to be completed in April 2004.
