The excellent infrastructure at Suape has attracted more than 70 enterprises from industry and port service operations that by 2003 had invested around US$ 1.7 billion and generated 5,500 direct jobs.

Among the private investments in the port area, the 523-megawatt thermoelectric plant stands out, representing investments to the order of US$ 350 million. Suape also has the potential to house at least another 10 thousand jobs and attract further investments of US$ 5 billion.

FUTURE PRIVATE INVESTMENTS

• Suape Business Center (SBC): the conception of this center is based on the “Market Research: Support Services of Suape Port”, carried out in 2001, which identified the needs and potentialities for the construction of a business and service center at the Suape complex. The target public identified includes a minimum of 5 thousand people and is estimated to reach 20 thousand in the upcoming years.

• Natural Gas Regasification Plant: destined to supply natural gas to industrial clients and the 523 MW thermoelectric plant. It will be constructed in an area of 100,000m2. It will also include the Maritime Pier to receive the product in a joint investment of US$ 200 million and will begin operations in 2005.

• Solid Granary Terminals: located at the back of berth 4 of the internal port in an area of 200,000m2, the private investment will come to US$ 58 million, with an expected initial storage capacity of 80 thousand tons.
